Tony's Tavern gets victory over Legends 9-6
Jan 27, 2013

Tony's Tavern moved to 3-0 for the 2013 spring season with a win over the Legends.  The weather looked promising before the game, but a couple of quick down pours and the field resembled a swamp.  Either way it was a good day to play some lacrosse.

The two teams have had quite a few close contests over the years and this one looked to be another chapter of the same.

Tony's jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but both teams would trade goals and Tony's led 4-2 at halftime.  The second half would see much of the same as Tony's tried to pull away, but the Legends were always there to answer back.  Legends would get as close as 1 goal, but Tony's found a way to pull away in the end and finish the game 9-6.

The offense saw big days from Jee and Loveless combining for 4 goals and 4 assists to help lead the way.  Newcomer Pascoe added 2 goals in his first game of the season.  Mills controlled the face-off X getting some help from his wings. Daniels and Bauer came up big clearing the ball and contributed 1 goal and 2 assists.  The defense held off numerous offensive opportunities by the Legends to preserve the victory.  Blahut and Markeloff played well between the pipes getting help from Bauer, Bumby, Daniels, Grady, and Reinsvold along with good defense up top from the middies.

It was another good game between the two teams.  Thanks to all the fans that braved the weather to support the team.

STATS:
Goals:   Jee - 4, Pascoe - 2, Daniels - 1, Glass Jr - 1, Loveless - 1
Assists: Loveless - 3, Bauer - 1, Daniels - 1, Jee - 1
Saves: Blahut - 10, Markeloff - 9

Tony's Tavern finishes opening weekend with win over Htown
Jan 20,  2013

Tony's hosted Htown lacrosse for the 2nd game of their opening weekend.  The weather was perfect for a day of lax and both teams came ready to play.  The game would show both the talent and rustiness of the new season for both teams.

The first half was a tightly contested affair with Tony's never able to pull away from Htown.  Both teams went back and forth answering goal for goal and when Tony's seemed that they would be able to build a lead Htown fired back with a goal right before half time to leave it at 7-5 in favor of Tony's.

The 2nd half started off fast for Tony's as fast break and ball movement led to 3 quick goals stretching the lead to 10-5.  Htown narrowed the gap back to 4 at 10-6 before Tony's pulled away with 10 straight goals.  Clagett, Jee and Loveless had monster days on offense accounting for 12 goals and 11 assists.  Mills held down the face off x and the midfield played well between the boxes.  The defense led by Daniels, Blahut, French and Markeloff added some new faces to the mix and played well as a unit.

Thanks to the fans that came to support the team.

STATS:

Tony's Tavern starts 2013 season with win over Predators
Jan 19, 2013

Tony's Tavern got their spring season started off on Saturday, Jan. 19th against the Houston Predators.  After a few weeks of winter conditions the weather let up for a sunny day in the 60's and perfect lacrosse weather.  This was the first time that many of the newcomers  and returning veterans were able to see what kind of talent there would be on the field this spring.

Shearer scored the 1st goal of the year for Tony's on a rebound put back in front of the crease to give Tony's a 1-0 lead.  The game was close after 1 with Tony's ahead 3-0.

The team would get in a flow and build on the lead throughout the rest of the game and never look back.  Jee and Loveless had a big day for the offense combining for 6 goals and 5 assists to help lead the way.  Mills dominated the Face-off X winning almost every draw combined with superb wing play from midfield and defense.  Clagett and Daniels came up big in the clearing game and started multiple fast breaks leading to easy goals for the team.  The team defense dominated and surrendered only 1 goal on the day.

It was a great day of lacrosse and we thank the Predators for hosting.  Next up for the team is a match-up against Htown lacrosse on Sunday Jan. 20th @ 1:00pm.  We hope you can make it out to support the team.

#33 - Jacque Passino

Jacque Passino rejoined Tony’s Tavern in 2008.  He is one of the last players on the team to start with Club Texas.  Rene Kozarsky and Jacque Passino are the last remaining 2003 Club Texas Alumni on the team.  Jacque returns to Tony’s Tavern after finishing college at Ole Miss.  Passino played his college lacrosse at Wingate University on scholarship before leaving to finish school at Old Miss.  Passino brings great offensive awareness to a potent Tony's Tavern offense.  He's willing to do the little things to help the team win whether it’s grabbing a ground ball or setting picks on offense.  Jacque plays solid defense and does a good job clearing the ball.
